The minute we got out of the car when we arrived to our new home in Berkley, MI I knew it would be an awesome neighborhood to trick-or-treat.
Sure enough, the neighborhood was abuzz Halloween evening. Every neighbor had their doors open and several were sitting on their porches. It was an unorganized block party.
The backdrop was yellowing leaves overhead and brown leaves crunching under our feet. The air was sharply cold and you could smell a distant wood burning stove. Neighbors greeted and joked. I gave out handfuls of candy to the neighborhood kids I know (and the teenaged boy dressed as Dorothy from Wizard of Oz).
We ended the evening at the neighbor's house eating good food, playing and chatting with friends. It was the best day we've had here, by far.
